Black Gets Scrappy

Throughout his illustrious career Roger Black has been no stranger to controversy. As the publication design maestro and his entourage roll into LA, he leaves a long line of illustrators and publication designers crying in their collective beers.

At this year’s ICON 6 Conference he reportedly told illustrators that the term illustration should be abandoned. He then rolled out the Ready-Media service, blasted as “blasphemy” by one commentator. Just last night the Webtype.com service went live, with Roger as one of the key partners.

Exactly what he has in store for his TypeCon keynote is a closely guarded secret, but in a recent interview he was asked if he expects any controversy at TypeCon. His response … “Sure. Type designers are a scrappy lot.”
